Robot Wars: Arenas of Destruction is a combat arena game released in 2001 for PC and PlayStation 2, developed by Climax Development and published by BBC Multimedia. It was based on the popular British TV show Robot Wars, where competitors built remote-controlled robots to battle in hazardous arenas.
In the game, players could:
- Design and customize robots with different chassis, armor, weapons, and locomotion systems.
- Compete in arenas inspired by the show, filled with traps like flame pits, spikes, and arena hazards.
- Face off against iconic House Robots from the TV series such as Shunt, Matilda, Sir Killalot, and Dead Metal.
Progress through tournaments and challenges to unlock new parts and arenas.
Despite its exciting premise, the game received mixed reviews. Fans appreciated the robot customization and the inclusion of House Robots, but critics noted clunky controls, repetitive gameplay, and graphics that felt dated even at release. Still, it has a nostalgic following among Robot Wars fans as one of the first attempts to bring the arena combat of the show into a game.
