The Warriors

The Warriors for PlayStation 2 is a beat 'em up action-adventure game developed by Rockstar Toronto and published by Rockstar Games, released on October 17, 2005.

The game is based on the 1979 cult-classic film "The Warriors", which itself was inspired by Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel. It serves as both a prequel and adaptation of the movie, letting players experience the events leading up to and during the Warriors’ desperate journey back to their home turf in Coney Island after being framed for the murder of a gang leader.

Gameplay focuses on street brawls, gang warfare, and urban survival, featuring co-op multiplayer, weapon combat, graffiti tagging, and territory control. Players can control different members of the Warriors gang, each with unique abilities, while engaging in brutal street fights against rival gangs across gritty 1970s New York City.

The Warriors was praised for its faithful recreation of the film’s atmosphere, strong voice acting (with original cast members reprising roles), and fun co-op gameplay, making it one of Rockstar’s most iconic non–Grand Theft Auto titles on the PS2.
